TeaMe 3.0 is a European Union co-funded initiative led by the Estonian Research Council (ETAG), aimed at enhancing science communication and popularizing STEM disciplines across Estonia.
The primary objective of this initiative is to foster public awareness of scientific topics and cultivate a positive attitude towards science. We achieve this by amplifying the dialogue between the scientific community and society, and by increasing the visibility of science and technology among young people through media.
We are organizing seminars for research project coordinators to develop technological literacy and creativity; hosting an annual student science festival to showcase research projects and encourage experience-sharing among students and educators; conducting spring and summer schools for career advisers, science communication enthusiasts, and teachers; and holding science communication conferences and workshops.
To increase the popularity of science, research, technology, and engineering among young people and society at large, to raise the quality of education in these fields, and to make related career paths more attractive, the Estonian Research Council coordinates various activities, engages stakeholders through different initiatives, and contributes to promoting school–company cooperation.
As media plays an important role in science communication, we support the development of research journalism and educational entertainment. Viewers have access to research-related television programmes such as Rocket 69 and Rocket Junior. We also manage the portal www.miks.ee, which introduces career options for becoming a researcher or an engineer, and we publish the miks.ee newsletter, which highlights the activities of science communicators. A summer school and a science communication conference are organized annually to support collaboration among science communicators.
