Nordic and Baltic countries launced a joint call, focusing on improving food security in the region.
The call aims to highlight the importance of both system-level approaches and the roles of individual stakeholders in strengthening food security, as well as to emphasize the interactions between physical, institutional, and societal factors. Funded projects are expected to deliver practical solutions and knowledge that, in the long term, will help enhance the sustainability, crisis preparedness, and resilience of food systems in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
Applicants must choose at least one of the following sub-themes:
- Cross-border preparedness and crisis response in food systems
- Infrastructure, logistics, and support systems for food security
- Consumer behaviour and increased use of Nordic and Baltic produced food
The deadline for submitting applications is 2 December 2026 at 13:00 (CET).
Applications must be submitted via the NordForsk application system.
The call is funded by Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Estonia, Lithuania, and the Nordic cooperation organisation NordForsk.
The consortium must consist of at least two research-performing organisations and one non-academic institution from three Nordic countries, or from at least two Nordic countries and one from Estonia and/or Lithuania. The Nordic countries include Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland.
The project owner (coordinator) must be based in one of the co-funding countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, or Lithuania). If the project owner is based in a Baltic country, the project must designate a co-host institution in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden, with which NordForsk will sign the contract for the Nordic funding. A contact person from the co-host institution must be appointed as the administrative contact for NordForsk.
Estonian participants are funded by the Estonian Research Council (ETAG) with up to €150,000 per project partner or €300,000 for the project owner—also in cases where there are multiple Estonian partners within a single project.
If multiple Estonian partners participate in the call, all must comply with the national PI eligibility requirements in Estonia.
