Brokerage event – AI topics with SSH integration requirement

Net4Society is organising an online brokerage event for Horizon Europe call topics focusing on AI that also have an SSH integration requirement. Photonics21 Innovation Award 2026
Deadline

The Photonics21 Innovation Award addresses PhD students, master students, young entrepreneurs, and makers alike who have an idea for a photonics product that can transform into a real business or product. The winner will receive a cash prize of €5,000 as well as an entrepreneurial skills coaching. The second and third winner will benefit from an entrepreneurial skills training by PhotonHub Europe.

European Commission launches European Partnership for Virtual Worlds
The partnership will boost research, innovation, standardisation and skills development, and encourage the adoption of virtual worlds. It will play a key part in strengthening Europe’s technological autonomy, ensuring that developments in virtual worlds reflect EU values and fundamental rights. The partnership is underpinned by €200 million Horizon Europe financial support between 2025-27, to be complemented with at least €200 million by virtual worlds association members.

Supporting the implementation of the AI Act with clear guidelines
In the context of the implementation of the AI Act and the proposed Digital Omnibus, the Commission is advancing work on a set of initiatives designed to support compliance with the rules and meet the needs expressed by stakeholders. The AI Office is currently preparing a set of guidelines to provide clear and practical instructions on how to apply the AI Act, alongside other relevant EU legislation.

Commission and European Investment Bank Group team up to support AI Gigafactories
The agreement establishes a framework to accelerate the financing and development of the AI Gigafactories that will anchor Europe’s future AI infrastructure. The EIB Group will provide tailored advisory support to consortia that responded to the Commission’s informal Call for Expression of Interest. This guidance will help turn ambitious concepts into bankable projects that can be submitted in the formal call for the establishment of AI Gigafactories planned for early 2026, paving the way for potential EIB co-financing.

SNS 2026 work programme released
The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) just published its Bi-Annual Work Programme for 2026-2027, including its Research & Innovation Work Programme 2026, allocating €22 million in EU funding to be invested in 5 projects. The 2026 work programme will act as a bridge between the previous SNS R&I Work Programmes and the final (larger budget) SNS Work Programme in 2027, facilitating a smooth transition from the second to the third and final phase of the SNS JU Programme.
