EU Framework Programmes promotion event „Horizon Europe – Better Life for Everyone in Europe“ was held from 28. October to 1. November 2019. Three Horizon 2020 NCPs from Estonian Research Council in cooperation with National Centre for Ukraine-EU Cooperation in Science and Technology of Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science were visiting four universities – Ivan Franko Lviv National University (28.10.19), Ivan Pulyi Ternopil National Technical University 29.10.19, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University in Ivano-Frankivsk (30.10.19) and Vlokh Institute for Physical Optics in Lviv (01.11.19) and performed an participants-inclusive infoday.
As first, the question „Why to participate in EU R&D Framework Programmes?“ was discussed by a presentation of Argo Soon, Estonian Research Council. NCP and programme committee member for Health and NMBP. Then, the knowledge of audience was examined by simple quiz about basic fackts of Horizon 2020.
Estonian national support system to successfully participate in EU Framework Programme was presented by Aavo Kaine, Estonian Research Council. NCP and programme committee member for ICT and Space. His presentation was illustrated by some examples of Estonian success story which gave good imagination how research and industrial success are related.
Opportunities for Ukraine to participate in EU Framework Programmes and experiences so far were discussed by Valentyna Andrushchenko, National Centre for Ukraine-EU Cooperation in Science and Technology, NCP ERC, Widening, program committee member for ERC, MSCA, FET. Now, attention of auditory was tested again by asking some facts about Ukrainian participation in Horizon 2020. Estonian candies as prize for correct answer motivated and encouraged the participants quite well.
General features of the new Framework Programme were introduced by Katrin Saar from Estonian Research Council; she is the NCP and programme committee member for food and bioeconomy. The questions asked about Horizon Europe were about Open Access, content of clusters and concept of missiotns. Regrettably, there were not answers to all of those interests until these details of new Framework Programme are still under development.
The talk with participants after official evnet gave an impression that Ukrainian research community is very much interester in getting better involved into European Union Framework Programme. Ukrainian participants’ perfomance has actually improved in H2020 compared to FP7 and there is the hope that through even better participation in Horizon Europe Ukraine will get also much closer to European Union.
The event was carried out in frames of the project „Beyond Horizon 2020 – supporting the Ukrainian RDI system“ which is financed from Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid programme.
