New opportunity for postdoctoral researchers: ETAG funding now available also to those whose initial MSCA project was not written in cooperation with an Estonian institution

From 5 May to 8 September 2025, the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS) is open for applications for incoming postdoctoral fellowships. The call is aimed at researchers whose Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) European Fellowship proposal received the Seal of Excellence from the European Commission (i.e. scored at least 85 points) but was not funded.

The call opened today specifically targets applicants whose original MSCA proposal was not prepared in cooperation with an Estonian host institution but who nonetheless wish to carry out their high-quality research project in Estonia. Until now, only those whose MSCA project involved an Estonian host were eligible – this change opens up the opportunity to a broader group of researchers.

ETAG does not conduct a new scientific evaluation of the applications but bases its decision on the MSCA evaluation summary report. To apply for funding, the applicant must find a new host institution and supervisor in Estonia, adapt the communication and training plan if necessary, and explain how the project will be implemented using the infrastructure of the chosen Estonian institution. The scientific content of the project must remain consistent with the original MSCA proposal and must relate to at least one of the smart specialisation focus areas defined under TAIE (Estonia’s RDI strategy).

Applications can be submitted via ETIS until 8 September 2025. More detailed conditions are available on the ETAG website.
