NordForsk, in cooperation with ETAG, opened the call for proposals „ Responsible use of Artificial Intelligence “.
The deadline for proposal submission is 13 May 2025 at 13:00 CEST.
The aim of this call is to fund excellent research activities that address shared Nordic and Nordic-Baltic societal challenges in the context of extensive use and implementation of AI in the region. The initiative should contribute to cross-border mobilisation of capacity and competence building among Nordic and Nordic-Baltic research communities and strengthen networks and collaborations.
Ethical and responsible use of AI is at the heart of this initiative. Applications should respond to societal challenges that the Nordic and Nordic-Baltic region is facing. These challenges include, but are not limited to, ageing populations, ongoing structural developments in the labour market, societal and political polarisation, health systems, education, competence development and lifelong learning and the green transition of the economy. Projects are expected to support optimal utilisation of AI, with minimal risks and threats, and to the benefits of citizens, businesses and the societies. Applications should also address AI specific challenges with a clear Nordic or Nordic-Baltic added value.
Applications must be submitted via the NordForsk Application Portal.

The consortium of applicants must include partners from research-performing organisations in at least four participating countries or areas, of which at least three are Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Greenland and/or Åland Islands). If the project owner is based in Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania, the project must also have a co-host institution in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland or Finland which NordForsk enters into contract with concerning the Nordic part of the project. A contact person must be appointed from the co-host institution and will serve as NordForsk’s administrative contact point.
Estonian partner(s) in a successful project will be funded by the Estonian Research Council (ETAG). The maximum requested budget for the Estonian partner(s) participating in one project, if all Estonian partners participate as regular partners, is 150 000 euros per project. If the Project Leader (Owner) is from an Estonian research organisation, the requested budget for the Estonian sub-project may be up to 300 000 euros. If several Estonian partners participate in a project coordinated by an Estonian research organisation, the maximum requested budget of all Estonian partners in the project is still 300 000 euros.
