EURAXESS Estonia team is glad to invite all international researchers working at Estonian R&D institutions as well as their family members to a networking event, which will take place from the 17th to 18th of May. This time we will be going to Ida-Viru County to do some voluntary work and, of course, to see the best sights of the region.
As you probably know, Estonians care about their environment and every May gather together for civil actions called talgud — communal cleanup campaigns. On the day 1 of our weekend, we would like to offer you this unforgettable voluntary experience and involve you into one cleanup action in Mäetaguse. In particular, our mission will be to clean the territory of old Kiikla manor complex, which belongs today to Kiikla Orphanage. The Orphanage inhabitants would be very thankful for our help in picking up leaves and trash in the manor park, in cutting apple tree limbs in the garden, and in many other householding activities.
For the night, we will stay in Toila Spa Hotel and will have a chance to enjoy its fantastic sauna-centre. We also have a special occasion to make the first day evening festive — EURAXESS Estonia network celebrates this year its 10th anniversary! So, the birthday cake is on us! 😉
While visiting the Ida-Viru County, which is known for its oil shale industry, we just cannot pass by the Kohtla Mining Park and its Underground Museum—a great touristic attraction of the region. On the day 2, we will descend to the former mining gears under the ground to experience the daily work environment of real miners.
Sunday will be continued with a lunch and walk in Toila Oru Park. Toila Park situated on the coastline of the Gulf of Finland is known for its amazing landscape and rare plant species. It was built in 19th century and is still a true gem of the Northeast Estonia.
