To strengthen and develop the Estonian-Nordic research cooperation, the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia, NordForsk and the Estonian Research Council are organizing the Nordic-Estonian Research Day on 27 May 2025 at the White Hall of the University of Tartu Museum. The focus of the event is on building impactful and resilient partnerships by reflecting on results and looking into the future.
This event aims to explore and discuss future opportunities and models of Nordic-Estonian research collaboration. Both Nordic and Estonian researchers will share their experiences and results from previous research projects supported by NordForsk in collaboration with Estonian research funders.
Arne Flåøyen, Director of NordForsk:
“We are living in challenging times. We are facing a climate and nature crisis, and there is a brutal war taking place in our immediate neighbourhood. Fundamental values such as democracy, equality, trust, and academic freedom are under pressure—from both within and outside. In such times, it is crucial to foster collaboration between researchers and institutions that share these core values. Estonia and the other Baltic countries have strong ties with the Nordic region. NordForsk aims to serve as a facilitator for further developing and strengthening co-operation between the Nordic countries and Estonia, and to promote research collaboration that can help address some of the major challenges we face.”
Anu Noorma, Director General of Estonian Research Council:
“We are pleased to invite everyone interested in Nordic–Estonian research collaboration to this event. These gatherings are essential for sharing insights from past and ongoing joint projects between Estonian and Nordic institutions, helping us to further improve our cooperation and encourage even greater participation from Estonian researchers. Estonia’s collaboration with the Nordic countries has deep roots and a growing impact. It is encouraging to see how the partnership with NordForsk has expanded over the past five years, driving high-level research and joint solutions to shared challenges – from sustainability to digital transformation and crisis response. We are proud to be part of this network, and our researchers are ready to address the pressing issues of our time.”
Joint funding mechanisms and key priorities of regional research collaboration between the Nordic and Baltic countries will be explored and discussed throughout the Research Day. The event is intended for researchers, research coordinators, policy makers, and research funding agencies.
Moderator of the day is Guttorm Aanes, NordForsk’s Head of Communications.
