The Estonian Research Council (ETAG) is pleased to announce the launch of the English version of TeadusSilm, a new online portal providing easy access to statistical data on research and development (R&D) in Estonia. The portal is now available at https://www.etis.ee/Teadussilm.
TeadusSilm – meaning “Science Eye” – offers a comprehensive overview of Estonia’s R&D landscape, bringing together data from multiple trusted sources. The platform is designed for researchers, policymakers, journalists, and anyone interested in exploring trends and developments in Estonian science.
The data is sourced from the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS), Statistics Estonia, OECD reports, the Estonian Rectors’ Conference, and international databases such as Eurostat, Web of Science, InCites, and eCorda. The Estonian Research Council is responsible for managing and updating the information, ensuring TeadusSilm remains a reliable and updated resource.
Key indicators featured on TeadusSilm include:
- Funding: R&D expenditure in Estonia and comparison countries, Ministry of Education and Research budgets, baseline funding, competitive research grants, and Horizon 2020 participation.
- Research Projects: Number and funding of research projects by field and programme, including demographics of project participants.
- Research Institutions: Number of R&D institutions, evaluation data, academic staff numbers, and salaries.
- Researchers: Number of researchers in Estonia and comparison countries, fields of activity, gender and age breakdowns, international researchers in Estonia, and Estonia’s most-cited researchers.
- Publications: Number and classification of publications in Estonia and comparison countries, author demographics, international and industry collaboration, and Open Access statistics.
- Intellectual Property: Number and type of patents and other industrial property in comparison countries, author demographics.
- Doctoral Theses: Number of doctoral theses defended in Estonia and comparison countries, supervisor and author demographics.
TeadusSilm aims to improve transparency and understanding of Estonia’s research system and support data-driven decision-making. The platform allows users to visualize the data through interactive charts and graphs.
