The Council’s call for research funding applications opens on 1 March

The call for postdoctoral, starting, and team grant applications in 2022 is open to researchers from 1 March to 17 p.m. (Estonian time) on 31 March. The applications can be submitted via the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS).

There are several important changes in this year’s call, the most significant one being the transition in the evaluation process, as a result of which the applications are going to be evaluated in international Expert Panels. The aim of the new system is to improve and harmonise the quality of the evaluation process as well as to shorten the time period during which the applications are being processed. In order to further support the researchers at the beginning of their career, the period of starting grant projects will be extended from four years to five years and there is going to be an increase in the grant amounts of postdoctoral and starting grants. In case of postdoctoral grants, greater emphasis will be placed on supporting the research career of the recipient and on the importance of the research topic for Estonia, and these applications will therefore be evaluated by an Expert Panel consisting of Estonian researchers.

Anu Noorma, the Director General of the Council and the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee, will further explain the changes in the evaluation system in the next issue of the newspaper Sirp, which will be published on Friday, 4 March.

The documents and other relevant information about the call can be found on the website of the Council. There is also a section dedicated to frequently asked questions, which is constantly being revised.

The information webinar (in Estonian) on the call will take place on 3 March: from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for the applicants of postdoctoral and starting grants, and from 13-15 p.m. for the applicants of team grants. The information webinar in English will take place on 4 March from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
