Welcoming program Research Module: a crash course on research and higher education system in Estonia

The Estonian Research Council cordially invites all newly arrived researchers, lecturers, and PhD students to take part in the research module of the welcoming programme. Our intensive training is meant to help you to settle in quickly and efficiently, and to give you important insights into academic landscape and research system of Estonia.

During the training course you will be provided with a thorough overview of the following topics:

  • Estonian research institutions and their functions;
  • various academic networks and organisations in Estonia;
  • research funding schemes;
  • teaching practices applied at Estonian universities, etc.

You will also be provided with all necessary legal information on the right of residence and requirements for granting or acquiring and extending residence permits for research migration.

Structure and dates of the trainings

The trainings are held in Tartu and Tallinn. Each training course includes 8 hours of educational and up to 3 hours of interactive activities, e.g. a tour of a research institution and/or meeting with Estonian researchers.

Training dates in autumn 2016 are:

  1. November 1 (9:30-17:00) — November 2 (09:00-13:00) in Tallinn in English
  2. November 3 (9:30-17:00) — November 4 (09:00-13:00) in Tallinn in Russian
  3. November 8 (8:30-18:30) in Tartu in Russian with an interactive event on November 10 (time tbs)
  4. November 9 (8:30-18:30) in Tartu in English with an interactive event on November 10 (time tbs)

Participation in both days is obligatory. Organisers will provide tea, coffee and snacks. Upon necessity, we will reimburse travel and accommodation expenses of participants coming from other towns, e.g. Narva, Viljandi or other.

Who can participate?

All foreign nationals and EU citizens who have received a notification from the Police and Border Guard Board on enrolment in the programme are welcome to take part in the trainings. If you have received no such notification but you have legally resided in Estonia for less than five years and would like to participate in the training, you can request enrolment in the programme by sending a letter of application to the Police and Border Guard Board.
