The Estonian Research Council’s Brussels Office is pleased to invite you to the IGLO Open Event “Science Diplomacy and Security at the Intersection of Knowledge, Power and Values.”
Date: 10 February 2026
Time: 10:00–12:30 CET, followed by the networking lunch
Address: Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU, Rue Guimard 11/13, 1040, Brussels
Science and technology are playing an increasingly central role in shaping Europe’s geopolitical position, security landscape and strategic autonomy. In this context, science diplomacy has moved to the forefront of policy debates, raising critical questions about how openness, shared values and security considerations can be balanced in international research cooperation.
The IGLO OPEN event “Science Diplomacy and Security at the Intersection of Knowledge, Power and Values” is inspired by several recent and ongoing developments, including the Science Diplomacy Conference held in Copenhagen, the designation of science diplomacy as one of the key research priority of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the preparations for FP10, the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Taken together, these developments underline the timeliness and strategic relevance of science diplomacy in the current European and global context. It also offers an opportunity to discuss and reflect together on how universities and the wider research community are shaping the future of science diplomacy.
A networking lunch will follow the seminar.
