Eesti Teadusagentuur korraldas 4. detsembril Tartu Lydia hotelli sündmuskeskuses teadusfoorumit “TeadusEST 2025: Eesti teaduse tipus on tihe”, mille keskmes olid Eesti teaduse tippkeskused ja teaduse hindamine (kes ja kuidas otsustab kus on piir „tipp“ ja „mitte-tipp teaduse“ vahel kui raha ei pruugi alati jaguda kõikidele „tippudele“). Foorum tõi kokku teadussüsteemi osapooled, et arutada, kuidas tippteadus sünnib, millist ühiskondlikku väärtust see loob ning kuidas Eesti tippkeskuste mõju suurendada ja paremini esile tuua.
Tippkeskus ei ole lihtsalt märksõna. See on kõrgetasemeline teaduslik koostöövorm, mis ühendab Eesti parimad uurimisrühmad, et tegeleda kõrge riski ja suure kasupotentsiaaliga teadusküsimustega. Need on väljakutsed, mille lahendamisel võivad sündida teaduslikud läbimurded, mis mõjutavad oluliselt ühe või mitme valdkonna seniseid teadmisi ja/või praktikaid.
Foorumil said sõna 10 Eesti teaduse tippkeskust, kes rääkisid oma projektide mõjust, eesmärkidest ja sellest, kuidas nende töö aitab kujundada targemat, kestlikumat ja paremat Eestit. Samuti püüdsime leida vastused küsimustele:
- Mis teeb teadusest “tipu”?
- Kuidas ehitada üles tippude meeskond?
- Kuidas teha tippkeskused ühiskonnas nähtavaks?
- Milliseid ootusi seavad poliitikakujundajad ja ministeeriumid tippkeskustele?
Konverents toimus eesti keeles ingliskeelse sünkroontõlkega.

The Estonian Research Council organised a science forum “TeadusEST 2025: Competition at the top of Estonian Science is Fierce” on December 4th at the Lydia Hotel Event Centre in Tartu, focusing on Estonia’s Centres of Excellence in research and the evaluation of science (who decides and how it is decided where the line lies between “excellent” and “non-excellent” research when funding may not cover all “excellences”).
The forum brought together stakeholders from across the research system to discuss how top-level science emerges, what societal value it creates, and how to enhance and better showcase the impact of Estonia’s Centres of Excellence.
A Centre of Excellence is more than just a buzzword. It is a high-level form of scientific collaboration that brings together Estonia’s best research groups to tackle high-risk, high-reward scientific challenges. These are complex problems whose solutions could lead to breakthroughs that significantly influence current knowledge and/or practices in one or more fields.
At the forum, the 10 Estonian Centres of Excellence in science presented the impact and goals of their projects, and how their work contributes to building a smarter, more sustainable, and better Estonia. The forum will also sought answers to questions such as:
What makes research “excellent”?
How to build a team of top researchers?
How can Centres of Excellence become more visible in society?
What are the expectations of policymakers and ministries for Centres of Excellence?
The conference was held in Estonian with simultaneous interpretation into English.
